This painting is of the barn down the road. It could use a coat of paint; most of the red paint from yesteryear is gone. The fields are lush and green - we've had a lot of rain this summer.

This summer, Vermont, New York and Quebec are celebrating the 400th anniversary of the arrival of Samuel de Champlain to the region. Festivals have been planned in towns large and small all around Lake Champlain.

Thus it seemed fitting to do a painting of the lake as it appears in my part of Vermont. For this painting, I used the landscape around Charlotte, VT as the basis for my design. It is called "Peaceful Day-Lake View". It is acrylic on canvas, 16" x 20".

I decided to do some experimenting. I have been thinking about incorporating lines into some of my work and decided to give it a try. It was loads of fun. The perspective is a bit off, but the colors and flowers were a blast. So here it is - 10" x 8" acrylic on canvas - in living color.

It's been an exciting couple of weeks. I've been working on preparing images to be printed for greeting cards. This is my first print run - up until now, I've been doing all of the production work myself.
I did get a few hours to paint, though. I used it to create a small autumn scene. It is 5"x 7", acrylic on paper, titled "Autumn Splendor". It's available for $145 (includes shipping and handling) matted but unframed. The matted size is 10" x 12".

I've been working on some sandbox projects - experimenting with my designs, trying out some new subject matter. Here is a quick 6"x6" canvas of flying geese that was a fun exercise in silhouettes.

Tis the season of flowers. My latest painting captures the wildflowers that spring up along the roads and in the fields, particularly dandelions. Another beautiful spring day. A brisk walk along the Lamoille River to get the blood flowing and then off to the studio. Another small piece (5" x 7") today - "Coming Into Town". This painting was inspired by a cluster of houses at a bend in the road in Fairfax.

The trees are getting greener each day, and the daffodils are blooming. What a wonderful season! This week, I'm working on small paintings (5" x 7") using liquid acrylic on watercolor paper. My first piece is a glimpse between two barns at the newly plowed and planted fields, with the mountains in the distance. This painting is called "Out Back of the Barn".

From sketch to painting:
This sketch shows the farm fields nestled up against the mountains on a summer day. I used it to create the painting, "Summer Day in Vermont" (20" x 16", acrylic on canvas) which I finished this morning. I wanted to capture the amazing green-ness of a Vermont summer day. At this time of year, I have to use memory, photos, and my imagination for the green since the grass is still brown and the trees are bare.
