Cardinal

Cardinal, 6"x6", Acrylic on Gessoboard, $195
This winter we have the good fortune to have a veritable flock of cardinals coming to our bird feeders.  Their beautiful crimson plumage brightens many a gray day.  I did this painting using Julie Ford Oliver's fracturing technique (it involves a palette knife and a squeegee.)  I only recently started painting on gessoboard - it is really smooth compared to gessoed watercolor paper and canvas, so a whole different feel when applying paint.
